"More frappe-fueled fun in Astoria, Queens, with the Hellenic
wannabe hellcat."
Kirkus
“Carrington
depicts Sofie's world with the nutty sweetness of baklava.”—Publishers
Weekly
Sofie Metropolis is the newest P.I. on the mean streets of
Astoria, Queens. She’s known for her trademark frappes
and her itchy trigger finger. She even shot one of her own
clients!
Well, he was trying to kill her at the time . . . and she
only hit him in the knee . . . .
Sofie’s hot on the trail of a missing pet ferret—wait,
aren’t those illegal in New York City?—and a missing
dry cleaner. According to his furious wife, Aglaia, Uncle
Tolly was acting odd right before he disappeared. The proof?
The brand-new Mercedes Tolly just bought. And the business’s
books, which show that Uncle Tolly was laundering more than
just clothes.
Which is where the mob comes in, in the darkly handsome figure
of Tony DiPiazza. Tony’s very taken with Sofie. Too
bad she won’t back off the money-laundering and kidnapping
(or is it murder?) investigation.
Really too bad, since hunky Australian bounty hunter/man of
mystery Jake Porter is hanging around again, tinkering under
the hood of Sofie’s car and kissing Sofie like he really
means it, only she’s too busy to notice.
Too busy: being attacked by a malevolent dry-cleaning bag;
bailing Aglaia out of jail; airing out her apartment after
an assault by noxious dog-farts; and spying on her own father.
Because Sofie’s mother thinks that after nearly thirty
years of marriage, her husband is having an affair. Can’t
anyone stay faithful for five minutes?
Sofie’s quest for the truth gets her into hot water—and
a pair of cement overshoes. It’s not her best look.
“Carrington
depicts Sofie's world with the nutty sweetness of baklava.
With the focus on fun rather than blood, this chick-lite mystery
further develops Sophie's relationship with Jake Porter, the
handy but possibly dangerous Aussie bounty hunter, who adds
just the right amount of delectable sexual tension to this
crime confection.”—Publishers Weekly
"...this fast-paced book captures the colorful Greek

"Dirty
Laundry would be a great story to take to the beach to read.
But be for warned, you may have people giving you weird looks
because you are giggling while you are reading. Tori Carrington
has given us another wonderful installment in the big Greek
life of Sofie Metropolis."Lydia Funneman, Writers

"You
can’t help but love this endearing young woman as she
tries to reconcile her family, her work life, and her love

laugh out loud moments as well as some scary ones in this

"DIRTY LAUNDRY is the second in the series and is like
riding a roller coaster—the more you read, the better
the ride gets until you don’t want it to end. Sofie’s
antics will make you laugh, put you on the edge of your chair
when she’s in danger, and have you cheering for her to
beat the bad guys. Thank you, Tori Carrington, for creating
a character that’s not only fun, smart and willing to
kick ass with the bad guys, but could be the girl next door
with her zany family. Zip your way to the nearest bookstore
and don’t miss the latest installment of Sofie Metropolis

On her wedding
day, right before the ceremony, right there in the Greek Orthodox
church, Sofie Metropolis discovered her groom and her maid of
honor in each other's arms. Sofie took this as a sign, and since
then, she's been doing her best to confound her own, and her
family's, expectations.
First, she is no longer waiting tables at either her father's
or her grandfather's dueling Greek restaurants in Astoria, Queens.
Second, she kept the engagement ring (the garbage disposal choked
on it) and all the wedding presents, including the small apartment
building that was a gift from her parents. It's not easy to
collect rent from an eccentric group of tenants that includes
a trio of lackadaisical business school students and a nice
little old Jewish lady who plies Sofie with ethnic delicacies,
but at least Sofie has a roof over her head. And her ex-fiance's
recliner in the living room.
Sofie also has a new career, thanks to uncle Spyros's detective
agency. Okay, so far, the cases haven't been all that exciting-mostly,
Sofie's been tracking down lost pets and cheating spouses-but
at least she's in control of her life. And even Sam Spade had
to start somewhere.
Then Sofie's mother's best friend, Mrs. Kapoor, who seems to
dose everything, even tea, with curry, reports that her dog
has been stolen. Sofie must drop everything to search for the
meanest mutt on the face of the earth...
The agency's usually unflappable office manager comes to Sofie
in terror because the neighborhood "vampire" has disappeared,
replaced by his even creepier nephew...
Tailing a wayward wife, Sofie is caught in a shoot-out and is
rescued by Australian man-of-mystery Jake Porter, who might
be a bounty hunter and who definitely gets Sofie's engine started...
And what is Jake Porter doing in the middle of Sofie's adultery
case anyway, and why is the cheating wife now on the run?

Three Starring Sofie Metropolis "The
problem with this 3rd book in the series is that now I have

funny, romantic and sometimes poignant, Sofie will be worth
waiting for." Joyce Ann, PW

"Smart,

concoction." Publishers

In FOUL PLAY,
Sofie’s searching for a couple of hot prospects, one
in her personal life and one professionally. The New York
Mets might just be on their way to the World Series, but their
newly signed pitching phenom has disappeared with the playoffs
fast approaching.
As
for her personal life, Sofie’s hooking up with a gorgeous
Greek who is every bit as hunky as her long-time crush, Australian
mystery man Jake Porter—and a lot more available.
After shooting a couple of her own clients and accidentally
getting involved with the mob, Sofie Metropolis is finally
starting to get the hang of the PI business. She’s just
landed her first high-profile case.
A local Astoria girl has made good by marrying an up-and-coming
South American pitcher who has just been signed by the New
York Mets. Reni Venezuela is that rare thing, an ambidextrous
pitcher, and his good looks and charm—not to mention
his fastball and his slider—are bringing hordes of fans
to Shea Stadium. But despite his stellar record as a closer,
Reni’s wife insists something’s wrong with her
husband. Can Sofie find out what?
To
the delight of her sister and the horror of her mother, Sofie’s
thinking about getting a tattoo. To her own horror and delight,
things are heating up between Sofie and sexy Greek baker Dino.
Sofie’s got to keep Dino a secret: from her mother,
who will start sending out wedding invitations the minute
she hears Sofie’s dating; from mysterious Australian
bounty hunter Jake Porter, who might disappear permanently
from Sofie’s life if he thinks she’s fallen for
someone else.
As
the Mets steamroll toward the pennant race, Sofie finds herself
tailing Reni Venezuela and hoping that whatever she discovers—steroids?
an affair?—won’t cost her beloved Mets the Series

WORKING
STIFF
AVAILABLE SEPT 2ND! Yes!
That's right, Sofie IV aka
WORKING STIFF is scheduled
to drop in both hardcover and on audio September 2nd. We're so
excited we could scream. No, wait. We'll save that for the day
we see the book on store shelves. "Doesn't it get old?"
you ask. Never! Every new book brings a fresh reason to celebrate.
Months of brainstorming, writing, revising, sweating the details,
falling in love with our characters and then saying goodbye to
them (in Sofie's case, for now), make each of our novels special
and something to celebrate.
Here's the blurb: The week before Halloween, a body disappears
from Sofie’s Aunt’s funeral home. It might be a holiday
prank, but Sofie’s barely begun to investigate when she’s
handed a truly hot case: prove the innocence of Little Johnny
Laughton who's on trial for murder! And what happens when sexy
Aussie bounty hunter Jake Porter finally takes her up on her many
offers?
Reviews are beginning to come in. Take a gander at these two:
"In
Carrington's entertaining fourth Sofie Metropolis novel (after
2007's Foul Play), the Queens Greek-American PI is on the hunt
[again]... [R]romance, humor and appealing characters will keep
readers happily turning the pages."Publishers
Weekly
"The fourth Sofie Metropolis private investigative tale
is as always an entertaining chick noir as the heroine works her
Queens’ caseload including the personal hunks in her life.
This is a fun urban mystery series."Harriet

A
coincidence that even as pro baseball teams everywhere race toward
the pennant that FOUL
PLAY is available in paperback? We think not! The
third title in our SOFIE
METROPOLIS series, celebrates all sports dreamers
as it becomes available for the first time in paperback! (We're
getting numerous reports that readers can't find copies in stores.
If this happens to you, make sure you ask the store to order more!)
Here's the blurb: The wife of Reni Venezuela, a pitching phenom
just signed by Sofie’s beloved New York Mets, arrives on
Sofie’s doorstep in a gigantic bright yellow Hummer and
declares that something is wrong with her husband. Can Sofie find
out what even as things heat up with yummy Greek baker Dino and
Aussie bounty hunter Jake Porter?

"While
retaining all the humor and off-kilter exploits that have made
this series such a delight, Carrington's latest shows Sofie's
growing confidence in her instincts and abilities. This writing
duo excels at delivering both giggles and gasps, and they have
another winner."Romantic Times

We're actually going to go with two videos for this category this

The next is one featuring the majestic lion Christian and his reunion

8/27/2007
- Greece Forest Fires:
We've been on the phone constantly with family (Tony's brother,
sister-in-law, niece and her family including two young children
were down vacationing in their Smila country house -- niece and
fam evacuated early Sunday morning, brother and sil still there)
in the exact area near Olympia where the fires have been raging
since Friday. At one point we were all terrified the family (and
other extended family members in neighboring towns) were blocked
in, the electric and water were off, and there was a time when
we couldn't get through to them on the phone either.
Thankfully,
it looks like the fire has finally passed them, but it's still
raging in the area.
Home
insurance is virtually unheard of in Greece, so abandoning houses
to fire means losing everything. I don't think the image of so
many trying to battle back monstrous walls of flames with garden
hoses will ever leave me.
"This fast-paced book captures the colorful Greek community
of Astoria where Sofie navigates between the expectations of her
Greek upbringing and the desires of her heart to be an independent
and strong woman." Greek
Circle, Fall 2006
"Tori Carrington has a hit with this oddball mystery that
is in the same class as Stephanie Plum... The novel is a delightful
first installment that will have readers laughing out loud."
The
Midwest Book Review, Nov 2006
"If you're thinking Stephanie Plum in My Big Fat Greek Wedding,
you're not far off. But Dirty Laundry has its own unique appeal.
It's a breezy and amusing glimpse of Greek American life. The
many references to Greek food will soon have you salivating for
spanakopita; fortunately there's a recipe for it at the end."
--Mystery Scene
"A
droll approach to crimesolving while attempting to solve some
of the lingering gender and cultural biases facing female PIs.
The wife/husband writing team of Lori and Tony Karayianni combine
elements found in the movie My Big Fat Greek Wedding with the
kind of capers Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum has made famous,
and the result is Sofie, a Greek-American woman swimming against
the tidal forces of family expectations with predictably little
success but with the resolve to continue on. The ethnic humor
is good-natured. Carrington's filled the book with characters
that have enough originality to stand out."--Alfred
Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine
"DIRTY LAUNDRY is the type
of book that will appeal to everyone. It has danger, excitement,
humor and a zany supporting cast that'll keep you entertained...I
loved every page of this story and can't wait for the next installment."
Rosie Bindra, FreshFiction.com
That’s
Welcome in Greek. Following the 2004
Athens Olympics, we’re all feeling a little Greek,
aren't we? And with good reason. Greek history and culture are
the foundation on which much of our civilization was built.
Tony’s always been proud of his heritage, but never prouder
than he is now. This new awareness has touched every aspect
of our lives, including the characters we create, the stories
we choose to tell.
This evolution couldn't be more evident than in SOFIE
METROPOLIS, our hardcover series from Forge! The first
novel of the same name introduces a Greek-American heroine who
breaks from tradition to become a P.I. The fourth hardcover
title WORKING STIFF hits store shelves September
2nd, 2008.

Also, Red-Hot

As you can see, Tony's Greek heritage usually finds a way into
many of our books.
Tony's
World Famous Baklava Recipe
That's right, you, too, can make baklava just the way Tony
does. Well, okay, maybe not *exactly* the way he makes it
(a guy's got to maintain some mystery), but close enough
to satisfy your appetite for the traditional Greek dessert
that he claims is an aphrodiasiac. Of course, he believes
that everything qualifies as the same, but that probably
falls solidly into TMI territory. I think it's a Greek thing.

RECOMMENDED SUMMER READING...
Hot
summer nights - this is what Detroit Free Press
reviewer Marcia Abramson had to say about Sofie: "Bright
and breezy, contemporary romance novels are filling beach bags
and airplane carry-ons this summer. They're as hot as the weather.
Especially hot is the chick-lit detective. Chick lit has
been big since about 1996, building on the popularity of the Bridget
Jones novels and "Sex in the City." But the shoes-sex-and-shopping
formula is starting to look like last year's Jimmy Choos. That's
why "Sofie Metropolis," by Tori Carrington [is] such
a treat." Click here

"Sofie is a delight, a thoroughly Greek-American,
who seems to always come out on top even in the most dire

"This
is a fantastic story! I was sucked into Sofie’s
world and didn’t want to come up for air... Sofie
is smart and plucky, while at the same time doesn’t
take herself too seriously. In fact, I found her endearing
and amusing and will definitely be picking up more of
Sofie’s books as they are published. When reading

I highly recommend SOFIE METROPOLIS, especially for

suspects in the act often finds herself in big T-R-O-U-B-L-E
in her very ethnic Greek neighborhood of Astoria, Queens,
NY. Being a good Greek daughter, Sofie was about to
get married and have lots of babies. However, finding
her husband-to-be schtupping her maid of honor on her
wedding day drastically changed her plans. Now Sofie
works for her absentee Greek uncle, assisted by feisty
office manager, Rosie, she drives around in her troublesome
vintage Mustang, Lucille and runs into hunky Australian,
Jake Porter at every turn. The burning question on Sofie’s
very kissable lips is who is this guy anyway? Read this
delightful mystery to find out why shots were flying
on Sofie’s cheating spouse case, if she can find
her elderly neighbor’s annoying Jack Russell terrier,
Muffy and why her other neighbor is never seen in the
light of day. SOFIE METROPOLIS kept me grinning from
first page to last and anticipating more zany adventures
from this lovable P.I.! Oh, and craving all those delicious
hard to pronounce Greek dishes!” Patricia

I’d like to introduce you to Sofie Metropolis...

"Excellent mystery. This terrific private investigative
tale reads more like a chick lit amateur sleuth novel
as Sofie is a rookie learning on the job. The story
line focuses on her lighthearted cases with a hint of
romance between the heroine and Jake. Tori Carrington
writes a fun breezy detective tale starring a likable
protagonist who brings alive the mean street of Queens,
New York." Harriet

"A different type of P.I. story takes 'Fiction'
to a whole new level. More than one plot is continuously
running. There are also a few sub-plots to keep the
pace moving at a good clip. Romance is touched on, but
no hot scenes, so either gender will enjoy the ride.
Of course, everything closes neat and tidy. Yet Tori
Carrington ends it in a way so that another 'Sofie'
book may come out in the future. I certainly hope there
is another! Lots of action, comedy, and mystery rolled
into one great tale. Recommended reading."

"Tori Carrington has once again written a funny,
sexy and I am hoping a series of books to come. I want
to know about each character in more detail. I want
to also know will there be a relationship between Jake
and Sofie. I am left looking for the next chapter in
their lives! Once you start reading you will not be
able to put the book down. It’s a hit!!!!"
