3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsps baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 1/4 cups unsalted butter, softened
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground cloves
3/4 cup sugar
3 tlbs cognac
3 tbls orange juice
zest of 1/2 orange
1/2 cup toasted walnut pieces
Syrup:
1 1/4 cup honey
1 cup water
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp cinnamon or 2 cinnamon sticks
Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Mix together all dry ingredients (flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, cloves) except sugar; set aside.
Beat sugar and butter well. Mix cognac and orange juice in seperate bowl.
Add flour mixture to the butter mixture a cup at a time, mixing well after each addition, then add cognac and orange juice.
Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until lightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool before dipping in syrup.
Syrup: Add all ingredients in a medium sauce pan, bring to boil then let simmer for five minutes. Keep syrup warm while dipping.
Sprinkle the top of syrup-soaked cookies with toasted walnut pieces.Kales Yiortes!
